It&#8217;s not a bad place to start, but consult with your professors, especially if you have an interest in a particular sub-discipline or practice within your area of interest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Purdue Online Writing Lab, <a href=\"https:\/\/owl.purdue.edu\/owl\/general_writing\/graduate_school_applications\/graduate_school_applications_statements_of_purpose\/statements_of_purpose_drafting_your_statement.html\">&#8216;Writing the Statement of Purpose&#8221;<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/owl.purdue.edu\/owl\/job_search_writing\/preparing_an_application\/writing_the_personal_statement\/index.html\">\u201cWriting the Personal Statement.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0 No one site can can cover all the details\u2014consult with professors and professionals in your specific field\u2014but the advice on connecting professional experience to personal experience and finding a narrative angle is valuable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chronicle.com\/article\/Leave-Dr-Seuss-Out-of-It\/126098\">&#8220;Leave Dr. Suess Out of It.&#8221;<\/a> Advice on what <em>not<\/em> to say in a PhD admissions essay.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Johns Hopkins U Medical School, <a href=\"http:\/\/studentaffairs.jhu.edu\/preprofadvising\/pre-medhealth\/applicants\/personal-statement\/\">&#8220;Personal Statement.&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0Tone is a bit snarky, but \u00a0suggestions are solid, and many would transfer to applying to law or business school or other professional programs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Academic job market (if you&#8217;re thinking of a PhD)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/academicjobs.wikia.com\/wiki\/Academic_Jobs_Wiki\">*Academic Job Wiki<\/a>.
