Good place to see touring Alt-Country and Americana acts. Also popcorn. Alas, no dancing, talking.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argusfarmstop.com\">Argus Farm Stop<\/a>. All-local produce, nice people, corn growing on the roof. We&#8217;re here several times a week during the growing season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mashbar.net\">Mash<\/a>. Good local live music venue; small combos early evenings, full bands after 10. Not that we&#8217;re often up and out that late, but good to know it&#8217;s there.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lsa.umich.edu\/ummnh\">Museum of Natural History<\/a>\u00a0(U Mich). Two words: dinosaur bones.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.neehees.com\">NeeHee&#8217;s<\/a>. Vegetarian Indian street food in Canton. Makes the schlep\u00a0to Ikea worthwhile.\u00a0Or just skip Ikea.<\/p>\n<p><del>Neopapalis.<\/del> Much-beloved but alas now-defunct cheap and cheerful pizza joint. Margherita with fresh mozzarella was arguably the best in town.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washtenawdairy.com\">Washtenaw Dairy<\/a>. Old-school ice cream shop, home-made doughnuts. We&#8217;ll often stop here after a long day hike or bike ride, because ice cream. Kid&#8217;s size is ginormous.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ypsiautoheritage.org\">Ypsilanti Auto Heritage Museum<\/a>. Located in a former Hudson dealership, this is a great piece of MI history.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Outdoors-ish<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.a2gov.org\/departments\/Parks-Recreation\/play\/Pages\/Canoeing.aspx\">Ann Arbor Kayaking<\/a>. City-run\u00a0canoe and kayak liveries at Argo and Gallup parks, along the Huron River in town. Great way to cool off on a summer day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washtenaw.org\/334\/Border-to-Border-Trail\">B2B Trail<\/a>. Continually growing paved walking &amp; biking pathway along the Huron River; easy access in Ann Arbor at Bandemer, Fuller, and Gallup parks, as well as sections in Dexter and Chelsea. I&#8217;ll be the one layered up like the Michelin Man while everyone else is out jogging in shorts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dtetrail.org\/\">DTE Energy Trail<\/a>. Beautifully-maintained mountain biking trail in Chelsea, with something for every skill level. Only downside is the over-biked middle-aged guys who ride too fast on the kid&#8217;s\/family trail and refuse to call out when passing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.a2gov.org\/departments\/Parks-Recreation\/parks-places\/Pages\/Olson.aspx\">Olson Park<\/a>. Great spot for mountain biking, close to downtown. My kid is now faster than me. So it goes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/piro\/index.htm\">Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore<\/a>. Beautiful section of Lake Superior shore with exposed sandstone cliffs (a bit like the California Central Coast), great for hiking, kayaking.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michigandnr.com\/parksandtrails\/Details.aspx?type=SPRK&amp;id=484\">Pinckney State Recreation Area<\/a>. Easy-to-get-to park\u00a0for day hikes, mountain biking, about 30 minutes from A2. Beach area at Silver Lake is a good family spot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sidewalkdetroit.com\">Sidewalk Festival of Performing Arts<\/a>. A true community festival, with an amazing array of young talent, from hip hop and spoken word to experimental theater and modern dance. Held late July\/early August.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saultstemarie.com\/attractions\/soo-locks\/\">Soo Locks.<\/a> Who doesn&#8217;t love\u00a0locks? Or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saulthistoricsites.com\/museum-ship-valley-camp\/\">museum ships<\/a>? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Zorbas-Greek-American-Restaurant\/121754704501204\">Zorba&#8217;s<\/a> in downtown Sault\u00a0Ste. Marie is nice little family-run Greek place.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.timberridgeski.com\">Timber Ridge Skiing<\/a>. Old-school family resort near Kalamazoo. Hill is small, but it&#8217;s an easy day trip from A2.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitelotusfarms.com\">White Lotus Farms<\/a>. Great bread and dairy products.
